COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Penn College dropped a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheaders to SUNY Cobleskill Saturday. The Tigers won the first game 6-2 and took the nightcap 11-9. Cobleskill improved to 14-3 NEAC, 20-4 overall, while the Wildcats fell to 6-9, 8-21.
In Game One,
Penn College took an early 1-0 lead in the third after an error plated
Macie Lucas. Cobleskill heated up with four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth, before
Breanna Abbey's single scored
Nicole Lo Furno in the seventh.
Lo Furno finished with a team-best two hits.
Shelby Lyter fell to 3-11 after six innings of work, with six strikeouts and six runs (just one earned). Erin Wadsworth improved to 9-2 after a complete-game five hitter with seven strikeouts.
In Game Two,
After the Tigers took a 3-0 lead after two innings, Penn College responded with four runs in the third. Lucas belted a two run single, Lo Furno plated Lucas with a double and Abbey's triple scored Lo Furno.
Following a run by Cobleskill in the third to even the game at 4-4, Lyter belted a two run double in the top of the fourth to put Wildcats ahead 6-4. The Tigers exploded with five runs in the fourth before RBIs by
Karey Wolfe and
Katie Kratzer in the fifth pulled Penn College within one, 9-8.
Cobleskill added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth and the Wildcats tacked on one more in the sixth on
Stephanie Kramer's sacrifice grounder.
Kratzer finished with three hits for Penn College and Lyter had two hits.
Arika Stopper fell to 5-7 after 3.1 innings, seven runs (five earned) and four strike outs. Emily Anger remained perfect at 5-0 for Cobleskill.
Both teams will slug it out again Sunday, 11 a.m.
