Wildcats Sweep Tigers

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Penn College swept SUNY Cobleskill in a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Sunday. The Wildcats, who won game one 6-4 and the nightcap 5-4, improved to 8-10 NEAC, 10-24 overall, while the Tigers dropped to 15-5, 21-5.

In Game One,
Nicole Lo Furno gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead with a double in the second inning. The Tigers added one in the top of the fourth before Penn College answered with three in the bottom of the frame. Macie Lucas belted a RBI single, Lo Furno brought in another run with a single and an error plated the third run.

Penn College tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on Lo Furno's sacrifice fly before a three run homer by Cobleskill closed out the scoring in the top of the seventh.

Lo Furno and Stephanie Kramer both finished with two hits for the Wildcats.

Arika Stopper improved to 6-7 with a complete-game effort. She fanned two batters, walked two and gave up four earned runs.

In Game Two,
Penn College found itself in an early 3-0 hole after the Tigers scored three runs in the first inning. The Wildcats got a run back in the bottom of the first when Jessica Gmerek smacked a one run double.

Cobleskill added a run in the third before Katie Kratzer matched it with a RBI double in the bottom of the third.

The Wildcats pulled within one, 4-3, after Lucas stole third and scored on an error by the catcher. Penn College evened the game on an error in the fifth and took a 5-4 lead after Kratzer's double scored Alexandra Brennan.

Kratzer finished with a team-best three hits.

Shelby Lyter improved to 4-11 after hurling all seven innings. She struckout six, walked two and game up three earned runs.

Penn College returns to action Monday, 4 p.m., at SUNY IT.
