King's Knocks Off Penn College


WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Penn College dropped a 5-1 decision to King's College in a non-conference women's soccer match Tuesday in the season opener for both teams. The Monarchs improved to 1-0, while the Wildcats fell to 0-1.

Lauren Phillips opened up the scoring in the 20th minute when she received a pass from Lindsey Humanik at the top of the box and hit the upper left corner of the net for the only goal of the first half. Erin Laird gave King's a 2-0 lead in the 53rd minutes and Andrea Galvin made it 3-0 in the 67th minute when she intercepted a goal kick and scored on a breakaway from 10 yards out.

Penn College got on the board in the 76th minute when Christina Weber put a shot into the upper right corner of the net from 40 yards out. Mariana Mercado and Savannah Tucker closed out the scoring for King's.

Jessica Natale got the win in goal playing the first half and making one save. Hailey Heistand made eight saves in net for the Wildcats.

Penn College returns to action Saturday hosting Keystone at 1 p.m.
