WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Gwynedd Mercy handed Penn College a 3-1 setback in a non-conference women's soccer match Sunday. The Griffins improved to 2-1, while the Wildcats fell to 0-2-1.
The Griffins struck early when Jackie Pierson deposited a corner kick from Kerri Petroski in the seventh minute. The Wildcats misfired on kicks from
Valerie Kubalak and
Christina Weber in ninth and 19
th minutes before GM made it 2-0 after
Hailey Heistand dropped the ball after coming out on a cross, and Morgan Andrews kicked in the rebound in the 21
st minute.
Gwynedd Mercy made it 3-0 in the 78
th minute after Tori Goebig found Ariety Fellenz. The Wildcats answered in the 80
th minute when
Christina Weber's corner kick found the head of
Debby Saenz to make it 3-1.
Heistand finished with two saves, while Jess Tadley stopped three shots.
The Griffins outshot Penn College 14-10 and owned an 11-7 advantage in corner kicks.
The Wildcats return to action Friday, 6 p.m. at Morrisville State.
