Phoenix Hold Off Wildcats


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Wilson College withstood a late Penn College rally to escape with a 75-70 win over the Wildcats in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Sunday. The Phoenix improved to 2-6 overall, 1-2 NEAC, while Penn College dropped to 2-10, 2-4.

Marquis Delgado shared game-high honors with 19 points for Penn College, and Thomas Ross picked up his sixth double-double this season with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Bryce Lonsway and Joseph Mangiero each netted 11 points for PCT.

Marquise Beckett scored 19 for Wilson, Ian Fisher finished with 16, Marqwon Wynn netted 11 and Kasdan Holder pumped in 10 points.

Lonsway's trey with 1:46 left in the game pulled Penn College within two, 66-64, but Wilson converted 7 of 8 shots from the stripe in the final 30 seconds to secure the win.

Wilson took its largest lead, 57-45, with 12:51 left in the contest before the Wildcats went on a 9-1 run to get within four, 58-54, on a three from Mangiero.  Wilson answered with a 5-0 spurt to pad its lead to nine with 7:40 before Kevin Laurence-El's jumper with 3:20 left made it 64-61, which led to the Lonsway three two minutes later.

Wilson led for the first half of the opening period before Mangiero evened the game, 20-20, with a three at 10:09. Mangiero's free throw at 6:55 gave the Wildcats their largest lead, 23-20, before the Phoenix pulled way and led 39-31 at the break.

Penn College return to action Wednesday, 6 p.m., at Penn State Abington.
