Lions Outlast Wildcats

ABINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Abington held off a late Penn College rally en route to an 87-82 win in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Wednesday. The Wildcats dropped to 2-11 overall, 2-5 NEAC, while the Nittany Lions improved to 3-9, 3-2.

Kevin Laurence-El led Penn College with a game-high 27 points, and grabbed 11 rebound to notch his fourth double-double this season. Marquis Delgado netted 16 points for the Wildcats, while Bryce Lonsway added 14 and Landon Muller finished with 13.

Dequan Jackson paced Abington with 24 points, Yusef Savage and Devin Jones both scored 19 and Spencer Burton finished with 10 points.

Trailing 14, 57-43, early in the second half, Penn College put together a 19-7 scoring run – spanning seven minute – to pull within two, 64-63, with 10:47 left in the game.  Thomas Ross and Delgado each scored five to spark the scoring run for the Wildcats. The Lions kept separation from Penn College the remainder of the contest – not allowing the Wildcats to get closer than four – to seal the win.

The first half saw three deadlocks before the Wildcats took its final lead, 19-18, on a Laurence-El jumper with 12:45 left in the opening period. Abington led by as many as 12, before taking a 49-39 lead at halftime.

Penn College returns to action next Thursday, 6 p.m., at Bryn Athyn.
