AURORA, N.Y. – Wells College built a 2-0 halftime lead and held on for a 2-1 win over Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's soccer match Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 6-1 NEAC, 7-5-1 overall, while the Express improved to 5-2, 8-3.
Emma Booth put Wells ahead 1-0 in the 18
th minute before Mackenzie Maloney made it 2-0 almost 10 minutes later in the 28
th minute for the Express. The Wildcats put three shots on frame in the opening half but attempts by
Alexis Trkula in the second minute,
Caitlin McCarthy in the 14
th minute, and
Tiffany Brown in the 19
th minute were all saved.
The Wildcats got on the board in the 50
th minute when
Hailee Hartman's pass from the right post found Brown for a one-timer to make 2-1. Hartman sent two more shots on goal, and
Jane Herman one, in the final 40 minutes but neither found the back of the net.
Wells outshot Penn College 18-16 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Colleen Bowes stopped eight shots in goal for Penn College, while Karlie Maloney picked up six saves.
Penn College returns to action Sunday, 12 p.m., hosting Keuka College.
