WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College punched its ticket to the North Eastern Athletic Conference semifinals with 1-1 (5-4 in shootout) win over Penn State Abington in Tuesday's quarterfinal match. The Wildcats improved to 11-8-2.
Penn College will travel to top-seeded Penn State Berks Saturday at 11:30 p.m.
After Abington held possession for the majority of the first 20 minutes of the game, Penn College capitalized on an offensive possession in the 31
st minute.
Hailee Hartman sent a pass from the right side of the field to
Tiffany Brown, who beat the Lions keeper to the right to give PCT a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats were three minutes away from a victory when Abington evened the game at 1-1 in the 87
th minute on Michelle Latronica's goal.
Abington had one shot on goal in the first overtime but
Colleen Bowes stopped a header attempt from Greta Sheridan in the 96
th minute.
The Wildcats were held without a shot in the second overtime and withstood three wide shots from Abington.
In shootout,
Hanna Williams,
Caitlin McCarthy and Hartman all matched their counterparts with goals. Bowes then dove to her right to stop a McKayla Baum attempt to keep it 3-3.
Jordan Courter made it 4-3 by converting her kick, followed by Paige Eberly's shot that evened PKs at 4-4.
Jane Herman ended the contest when she belted her kick high and out of reach of Abington's keeper.
Abington outshot Penn College 15-7, while corner kicks were even at 5-5.
Bowes stopped four shots in goal, while Samantha Fiend picked up three saves.
