WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lancaster Bible edged Penn College 75-66 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday. The Chargers improved to 1-1, while the Wildcats fell to 0-4.
Gwendolyn Lavelle led the Wildcats with a career-high 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting.
Alicia Ross finished with 17 and
Maddie Wenk added 11.
Courtney Goyak netted a game-high 27 and grabbed a contest-high 25 rebounds. Caitlin Hickey added 16 and Krissy Pennell finished with 15.
Penn College erased a 17-13 deficit early in the second quarter with a 7-2 scoring spurt to take a 20-19 lead on Ross' trey at 5:01. The Chargers answered with a 10-3 run to take their largest lead, 29-22, with 2:54 remaining before the break. The Wildcats rallied to even the game at 29 on Lavelle's long ball with 1:41 on the clock. LBC led 34-29 at halftime.
The Chargers led the entire third quarter and took its largest lead, 50-41, with 2:38 left in the period. The Wildcats closed the gap to four, 57-53, on Ross' layup to end the quarter. A
Camaren Banks jumper early in the fourth pulled Penn College within two, 57-55, before LBC pulled away and led the remainder of the contest.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., at Bryn Athyn.
