Lions Escape Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn State Abington edged Penn College 76-68 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Friday. The Lions improved 6-19 overall, 6-12 NEAC, while the Wildcats fell to 3-19, 3-13.

Thomas Ross recorded his ninth double-double this season with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Kevin Laurence-El netted 18 and Marquis Delgado finished with 12.

Devin Jones scored a game-high 26 points for the Lions and Yusef and Dequan Jackson both finished with 19 points. Jackson also grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds.

After Bryce Lonsway put Penn College ahead 11-7 with a trey at 15:48, Abington answered with an 8-0 run to take a 15-11 advantage with 14:46 left in the first half. The Wildcats rallied with a 7-3 spurt to even the game at 18-18 on another Lonsway long ball with 11:26 left before the break. The Lions created separation with a 7-0 run en route to a 39-31 halftime lead.

The Wildcats pulled within four, 46-42, on a Ross three at 14:54 in the second half before Abington used a 9-2 run to take its largest lead, 55-44, with 12:15 left in the game. Penn College got as close as three, 56-53, on a Ross layup with 8:01 left but couldn't get any closer.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Bryn Athyn.
