Lions Surge Late to Down Wildcats


WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Bryn Athyn put together a 16-9 scoring run in the final five minutes of the game to hand Penn College a 92-80 setback in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Lions improved to 6-19 overall, 6-12 NEAC, while the Wildcats fell to 3-20, 3-14.
 
Seniors Kevin Laurence-El and Laquinn Thompson were honored prior to playing their final home game.
 
Laurence-El scored a game-high 24 points for the Wildcats, Marquis Delgado added 18 and Thompson finished with 10. Thomas Ross picked up his 10th double-double this season with 17 points and 16 rebounds.
 
Luis Martinez led Bryn Athyn with 23 points, Austin Martinez and Devante Laws both scored 14, Troy Steed chipped in with 11 and Stephan Tucker added 10.
 
The Wildcats overcame a seven point deficit with 2:42 left in the first half, trailing 35-28. Penn College quickly erased it with five points from Delgado and three from Laurence-El to lead 36-35 with 1:38 on the clock. Following two more lead changes, Laurence-El put PCT ahead 40-38 with 38 seconds left before the Lions evened the game 15 seconds later and both teams headed into the break tied at 40-40.
 
Penn College took its final lead of the game on a Ross long ball with 17:52 left in the game to go ahead 48-47. The Wildcats pulled within one four times in the ensuing five minutes but couldn't get any closer.
 
Penn College wraps up its season Monday, 6 p.m., at Lancaster Bible College.
