CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - Cazenovia downed Penn College 98-84 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball Sunday. Penn College dropped to 3-16 overall, 3-10 NEAC, while Caz improved to 9-10, 7-4.
Five players reached double figures in scoring for Penn College, led by
Kevin Laurence-El's 19 points. The senior also grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.
Joseph Mangiero and
Marquis Delgado each pumped in 16 points,
Landon Muller added 11 and
Thomas Ross finished with 10.
Cazenovia also featured five players reaching double digits, led by Jordan Gilman's game-high 21 points. Will Thompson and Avery Wilmore each pumped in 17, Keith Caiello added 16 and Ryan Gavin scored 15.
Deadlocked at 8-8 after a Muller layup at 14:88, Cazenovia used a 13-7 spurt to take a 21-15 lead with 12:07 left in the opening half. Mangiero's three with 7:09 on the clock put Penn College within one, 26-25, and a Lonsway long ball at 3:01 made it 37-36. Cazenovia pulled away in the final three minutes and led 45-39 at halftime.
Penn College got as close as four three times in the second half, with its final one coming after
Laquinn Thompson's layup made it 57-53 with 14:55 left in the game. Cazenovia used a 9-0 run to create separation and never looked back.
Penn College returns to the court Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Wells College.
