WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Penn College split a non-conference baseball doubleheader against Pitt-Bradford Saturday at Bowman Field. The Panthers won the first game, 3-0, before the Wildcats returned the favor in the nightcap, 3-0.
Penn College improved to 5-9, while Bradford sits at 4-9.
In Game One,
The Panthers added two runs in the third inning, one in the fifth and got out of trouble in the bottom of the first to secure the win.
After
Dylan Scaringi led off the first with a double,
Cole Hoffman followed with a walk, and
Cole Weachock reached out a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. Bradford starter Ryan Northcott struck out the ensuing three batters to end the inning with the bases loaded.
Scaringi finished with two hits, while
Richard Lennon and
Jeremy Rall picked up the other hits for Penn College.
Bradley Walter fell to 0-2 after three innings of work, striking out one, walking one and allowing two earned runs.
Max Bair pitched well in relief with three strikeouts, one walk and one unearned run in four innings.
In Game Two,
The Wildcats got on the board in the first inning after Scaringi was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved to third on a Weachock single, and scored on an error by the left fielder.
Penn College tacked on a pair in the fourth with a two-out rally that started when
Evan Vigna legged-out an infield single. Rall followed with a single, before
Taylor Vandegrift brought in Vigna with a single to center. Rall scored after
Connor Doherty's single to left field.
Aaron Palmer fired a complete-game two-hit shutout to improve to 2-0. He struck out five and walked none.
Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 3 p.m., hosting Marywood.
