Penn College Sweeps Alfred St.; Rall Gets 100th Hit


HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Penn College won a pair of non-conference baseball games against Alfred State to improve to 10-11. The Wildcats won the first game 5-2, and the nightcap 2-0.

Penn College senior Jeremy Rall picked up his 100th career hit in the second contest.

In game one,
The Wildcats overcame a 2-0 deficit with five unanswered runs in the final four innings.

After the Pioneers tacked on two in the third, Rall plated Cole Hoffman in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to left. Dylan Scaringi's two-run single to left put the Wildcats ahead 3-2 in the fifth. Carlos Rodriguez added a RBI in the sixth and Evan Vigna smacked a solo home run to right field in the seventh.

Weachock and Rodriguez each picked up three hits for Penn College.

Devon Sanders improved to 1-1 after relieving Cody Nelson in the third. Sanders tossed three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, with one strikeout and one walk. Max Bair picked up his first save, closing the final two innings, with no runs on just one hit, and one walk and one strikeout.

In game two,
Penn College picked up the only runs it needed in the second and third innings, and relied on four pitchers for a three-hit shutout.

Deric Ellerman hit into a fielder's choice in the second that scored Conner Doherty, before the Wildcats scored its second run on an error in the third.

Taylor Vandergrift led Penn College with two hits.

Aaron Palmer stayed perfect at 4-0 after 2.1 innings of perfect pitching, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out one. Palmer relieved starter Trevor Dolin, who went 2.2 innings, with two hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Jed Blankenhorn fired one inning and Andrew Gilbert closed the game, allowing one hit and striking out one to earn the save.

Penn College returns to action Thursday, 1 p.m., at Mansfield.
