Berks Sweeps Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn State Berks avenged its 2015 North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship game loss to Penn College with a pair of wins against the Wildcats Saturday. The Lions handled Penn College 13-1 in the first game and 11-7 in the second contest.

The Wildcats dropped to 1-3 NEAC, 10-15 overall.

In game one,
After three scoreless innings, Berks took a 4-0 lead with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth. Penn College got a run back in the sixth when Jeremy Rall smacked a RBI single to center that plated Evan Vigna.

Berks added six runs in the eighth and three in the ninth.

Rall and Dylan Scaringi combined for four of Penn College's five hits.

Cody Nelson fell to 3-2 after six innings of work. He surrendered four runs on five hits, struck out five and walked six.

In game two,
The Lions jumped out to a 9-0 lead through the first two innings.

Penn College answered with four in the second and one in the third to make it 9-5.

Cole Weachock belted his first home run this season with a solo shot to left center in the second. Scaringi and Rall each drew a bases loaded walk, and Vigna was hit by a pitch with the bases still loaded to score the Wildcats other three runs. Carlos Rodriguez brought in a run in the third with sacrifice fly to center that scored Richard Lennon.

Both teams traded a run each in the fourth and fifth innings.

Lennon plated Scaringi in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to center and Rall provided the run in the fifth with a RBI single to center.

Luke Zamiskie fell to 0-3 after one complete inning of work. He surrendered six runs.

Four members of the team – Rall, Weachock, Rodriguez and Zamiskie – were honored before the game in a Senior Day ceremony.
