WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College spilt a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader against SUNY Poly Saturday at Bowman Field. PCT won the first game, 10-5, before dropping the nightcap 14-8.
Penn College sits at 1-1 NEAC, 6-11 overall, while Poly stands at 1-1, 7-12.
In game one,
Penn College spotted Poly a 2-0 lead early, before totaling seven run in the fourth and fifth innings.
Evan Vigna started the onslaught with a two-run triple to center and later scored on
Cole Weachock's single to center to make it 3-0.
Noah Esposito cleared the bases in the bottom of the fourth on a triple to right and Weachock picked up another RBI, plating Esposito with a single to put PCT ahead 7-2.
Vigna made it 8-2 with a double in the sixth before Poly tacked on two runs in the seventh.
Dylan Scaringi and
Jeremy Rall batted in runs in the seventh and eighth.
Rall finished 4 for 4 at the pale, while Vigna, Weachock,
Richard Lennon and
Noah Esposito all picked up two hits. Vigna and Esposito each batted in three runs.
Cody Nelson improved to 3-1 after 6.1 innings of work. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered four runs (three earned).
In game two,
Poly struck first with a run in the top of the first inning before a wild pitch plated Scaringi, and
Deric Ellerman picked up a RBI single in the bottom of the first to put PCT ahead 2-1. Poly pumped in four runs in the second, before Rall got one back with a RBI single to right in the bottom of the second.
Poly exploded for six runs – all unearned -- in the third to go ahead 11-3, and added a run in the fourth to make it 12-3. Penn College picked up five runs combined in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Weachock picked up a sacrifice fly in the fourth, a bases loaded double play plated one in the fifth and error allowed three PCT runs to score in the sixth.
Rall finished with three hits for PCT, while Ellerman and Vigna each picked up two hits.
Trevor Dolin fell to 1-1 after 2.2 innings on the mound. He struck out three, walked four and allowed 10 runs (just four earned).
Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 2 p.m., hosting Summit University.
