WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College won both games of a baseball doubleheader against Summit University Wednesday at Bowman Field. The Wildcats won both games, 13-1, and improved to 8-11, while the Defenders fell to 2-14-1.
In game one,
After Summit added a run in the first,
Cole Weachock cleared the bases with a double to left in the bottom of the frame to put PCT ahead 3-1.
Penn College combined for 10 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Cole Hoffman picked up a RBI single to center in the fourth and another RBI on a double in the fifth.
Taylor Vandegrift's two run triple to right in the fifth made it 5-1 before an error, and
Noah Esposito's double to left plated another run in the fifth.
Carlos Rodriguez knocked in two runs in the sixth with a double, Vandegrift brought in another run with a single in the sixth before a fielder's choice scored the final run of the game.
Vandegrift and Weachock both finished with three hits for Penn College, and Hoffman and Vandegrift each picked up a pair of hits.
Bradley Walter improved to 1-3 after firing six innings, with eight strikeouts, four walks and one run on just two hits.
In game two,
Penn College exploded for five runs in the second inning after a two-run single from
Trevor Route, a triple by Vandegrift and doubles from
Dylan Scaringi and Rall.
Rylan Whitmyer belted a sacrifice fly in the fourth to make it 6-0 and the Wildcats tacked on six in the sixth.
Ed Suri plated two runs on a double in the sixth and another on a single, a wild pitch scored two runs and
Braden Smith and Whitmyer added a RBI each in the sixth.
Suri and Rall picked up two hits each for Penn College. Rall is one hit shy of reaching 100 career hits.
Aaron Palmer remained perfect at 3-0 after six innings on the mound. He struck out two, walked two and allowed one unearned run on four hits.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Keuka College.
