LANCASTER, Pa. – Penn College split a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball games Friday. The Wildcats improved to 2-6 NEAC, 11-19 overall after falling 10-13 in game one, and winning 9-2 in the nightcap.
In game one,
Following a scoreless first three innings by both teams, Penn College struck first when
Cole Hoffman smacked a two run home run to give the Wildcats an early 2-0 lead. LBC got one run back in the fourth before Penn College added a run in the fifth, and four in the sixth to lead 7-1.
Hoffman picked up his third RBI on a single in the fifth before
Rylan Whitmyer belted a grand slam home run in the sixth.
The Chargers answered with a RBI single, and three homers in the sixth and seventh to take a 9-7 lead.
The Wildcats pumped in three runs in the eighth to increase their lead to 10-9.
Richard Lennon launched a solo home run,
Noah Esposito knocked in a run on a single, and an error scored Penn College's final run.
LBC tacked on four in the eighth to regain the lead for good.
Hoffman and
Connor Doherty both picked up a pair of hits for the Wildcats.
Devon Sanders fell to 1-2 after 1.1 innings, and three runs on three hits.
In game two,
Both teams scored a run in the first, with the Wildcats run coming on an error.
LBC took a 2-1 lead with a run in the third before Penn College peppered the Chargers with eight runs in the fifth.
An error plated Hoffman in the fifth before
Cole Weachock smacked a three run shot to make it 5-2.
Dylan Scaringi drew a bases loaded walk and Hoffman cleared the bases on a double.
Lennon paced Penn College with two hits, while
Bradley Walter improved to 2-4 after a complete-game effort. He allowed two runs on six hits, struck out 10 and walked two.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, 12 p.m., at Gallaudet.
