MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Penn College swept Morrisville in a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Sunday. The Wildcats improved to 8-6 NEAC, 14-15 overall, following a 6-2 win in the first game and a 16-4 victory in the second.
In game one,
The Wildcats scored all six of their runs in the final two innings to overcome a 1-0 deficit.
Maddie Wenk plated Penn College first two runs in sixth when her single to center scored both
Nicole Lo Furno and
Sophie Coldsmith. After the Mustangs added a run in the bottom of the sixth before the Wildcats answered with four in the top of the seventh.
Kelsey Gantz's RBI single to center broke the 2-2 deadlock and was followed two batters later with
Elizabeth Asher's three run double to left center, scoring Wenk, Gantz and Lo Furno to put PCT ahead for good.
Amanda Kustanbauter led the Wildcats with two hits and improved to 5-6 after firing a complete-game. She allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits, struck out seven and walked three.
In game two,
Penn College bookend the game with nine runs in the first and seven in the seventh inning.
Taylor Brooks continued her power surge with a two run shot to center field in the first inning, plating
Taylor Krow, for her third home run of the weekend. After a wild pitch plated
Nicole Lo Furno,
Elizabeth Asher smacked a two run homer, Krow roped a three run triple and Brooks brought in a run with a single to put PCT ahead 9-0.
Morrisville scored a run in the first and three fourth.
Samantha Hill's bases loaded walk scored the first run in the seventh, Tian McCormick hit a RBI single, Krow belted another three run triple,
Lauren Stehman picked up a RBI single and Asher drew a final bases loaded walk to end the onslaught.
Krow and Brooks both finished with three hits and Lo Furno and Asher picked up a pair.
Brooks improved to 5-4 after 3.1 innings of work. She allowed four runs on two hits, struck out five and walked six.
Penn College returns to action Monday, 3:30 p.m., at Elmira.
