UTICA, N.Y.- Penn College split with SUNY Poly in a pair 1-0 North Eastern Athletic Conference softball games Thursday. PCT won the first game 1-0, before Poly walked-off with a 1-0 win in the second game.
Penn College sits at 9-7 NEAC, 16-17 overall, while Poly is 10-4, 14-14.
PCT is currently No. 4 in the NEAC North Division, behind Keuka (13-3), Poly (10-4) and Cazenovia (9-7). Those four teams are fighting for the three playoff spots awarded to the North. Penn College has split with Keuka and plays the Wolfpack Saturday, Cazenovia swept PCT in all four meetings, while PCT split with Poly in four games.
In game one,
Penn College scored all of the runs it needed in the top of second inning when
Maddie Wenk doubled to right center and scored
Kelsey Gantz.
Penn College missed some opportunities to score more runs with bases loaded in the fourth.
Gantz led Penn College with two hits, while
Amanda Kustanbauter improved to 7-7 after a complete-game shutout on five hits.
In game two,
After six and half innings of scoreless play, Poly walked off with a win in the bottom of the seventh when a single to center scored a runner from second.
Penn College missed a chance to add run in the third when singles from
Samantha Hill and
Taylor Krow, and a sacrifice bunt by
Nicole Lo Furno, gave PCT runners on second and third with one out. A lineout and strike out ended the frame for Penn College.
Taylor Brooks fell to 5-6 after a complete-game. She allowed one run on six hits, struck out eight and walked eight.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 11 a.m., at Keuka.
