WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College broke a 1-1 deadlock with a second half score to earn a 2-1 win over Penn College in the seventh Battle for the Lumber game. The Warriors improved to 6-3-2, while the Wildcats fell to 5-4-1.
The Warriors struck early when Jordan Lazarich deposited a pass from Angelina Fernandez in the third minute. Penn College had two great looks on goal in the final 15 minutes of the first half when shots by
Jane Herman, in the 29
th and 41
st minutes, both were saved by a diving Joelle Winey.
Hailee Hartman evened the game in the 57
th minute on her ninth goal this season when she finished a pass from
Olivia Murgo.
Lazarich scored the eventual game-winner in the 69
th minute on an unassisted tally.
The Wildcats saw one more quality shot in the 84
th minute when Caitlyn McCarthy just missed on an indirect kick that sailed just wide.
Lycoming outshot Penn College 15-9 and held a slight 2-1 edge on corner kicks.
Colleen Bowes finished with six saves, while Winey also stopped six shots.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Cazenovia.
