Wildcats Edge Penn State Berks

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to knock off Penn State Berks 84-82 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Thursday. The Wildcats improved to 4-8 overall, 2-5 NEAC, while the Lions fell to 2-9, 2-5.

Ben Sosa paced the Wildcats with 20 points, Erik Eichinger finished with 19, Marquis Delgado added 13, and Erik Perry Jr. and Jesse White both pumped in 12 points. White picked up a double-double with 12 rebounds, while Thomas Ross grabbed 10 boards.

Baba Waples scored a game-high 35 points and Dave Polisano finished with 28.

Trailing by 13, 57-44, with 15:54 left in the game Penn College rallied with 21-7 run –spanning nearly seven minutes – to take a 65-64 lead with 8:21 on the clock after an Eichinger trey. Eichinger paced the run with six points, while Delgado and Sosa each scored five. Berks answered with a three to momentarily regain the lead but Erik Perry Jr. netted five-straight points to give the Wildcats a 70-67 advantage with 7:20 left in the game.

Penn College took its largest lead, 77-69, on Delgado's layup with 5:33 left before Berks rallied to even the game at 79-79 two minutes later. The Wildcats responded with five straight and led 84-79 on Delgado's layup with 1:59, and withstood a three from Polisano to make it 84-82 and two more jumper attempts from the Lions in the final minute.

Penn State Berks held a two possession lead for the majority of the opening half before ending the opening period with a 5-0 run to lead 45-37 at the break.

Penn College returns to action Saturday, 3 p.m., hosting Wilson College.
