WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College withstood a late surge to edge Wilson College 73-67 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats won their second straight game and improved to 5-8 overall, 3-5 NEAC, while the Phoenix fell to 4-8, 4-4.
Ben Sosa scored a game-high 24 points for Penn College and grabbed 10 rebounds to notch his third double-double this season.
Erik Perry Jr. finished with 13,
Jesse White added 11 and
Erik Eichinger added 10 for Penn College.
Rashaan Bean paced Wilson with 19 points, Marquis Nelson had 12 and Ian Frazier chipped in with 11.
Penn College overcame a nine-point, 19-10, deficit midway through the first half with an 8-0 run to get within one, 19-18, on Sosa's layup with 8:28 before halftime. The Wildcats took their largest lead, 27-21, after a pair of Eichinger free throws at 5:13 and maintained a slight lead the remainder of the half, leading 37-32 at halftime.
Penn College took its largest lead of the game, 61-43, following a
Marquis Delgado jumper with 8:35 left in the game. Wilson chipped away at the Wildcats lead and pulled within three, 67-64, after a four-point play but Eichinger,
Thomas Ross and Sosa combined for 6 for 6 from the line in the final minute of the game to ice the win for Penn College.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday, 2 p.m., hosting Gallaudet.
