WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College won its second straight game with a 68-59 win over Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Sunday. The Wildcats improved to 3-10 overall, 3-6 NEAC, while the Bison fell to 2-10, 2-7.
Alicia Ross scored a game-high 28 points for Penn College, while
Gwendolyn Lavelle pumped in 16 and
Jane Herman recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Ross is 84 points away from tying former teammate
Jamie Steer '16 (1,422) for the program's career scoring mark.
Jakkisha Smith pace GU with 23 points and Michaela Evans finished with 14.
The first quarter featured several lead changes and two ties, the final coming at 14-14 with 1:13 left in the opener. The Wildcats scored four straight – all from Ross – to make it 18-14 before maintaining an 18-16 advantage after the first. After the Bison took their largest lead, 29-23, at 5:18 in the second quarter, the Wildcats pulled within one following a trey by
Maddie Wenk and layup from
Tiffany Brown, before trailing 33-31 at halftime.
Penn College opened the third with a 9-0 spurt and gained a 40-33 lead after a Ross bucket at 5:34 and led 48-43 at the end of the period. The Wildcats led the rest of the contest, by as many as 10 and as little as one.
Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 5 p.m., hosting Penn State Abington.
