WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College netted a trio of first half scores en route to a 5-1 win over SUNY Cobleskill in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's soccer match Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 8-11-1, 5-5-1, while the Tigers fell to 6-10-2, 4-5-1.
The victory clinched Penn College's first-ever NEAC playoff berth. The Wildcats will travel to Keuka in Tuesday's first round.
Daniel Hibbs gave Penn College a 1-0 lead when he converted a penalty kick in the 11
th minute.
Mike Gonzalez made it 2-0 in the 18
th minute when he finished off a shot to the upper 90, and
Matthew Hibbs made it 3-0 when he separated himself in a one-on-one match and found the back of the net.
Cobleskill netted a shot in the 28
th minute to make it 3-1 at halftime.
Matthew Hibbs struck again in the 67
th minute when he finished off an
Austin Dowrick pass. Dowrick found twine in the 70
th minute after he headed in a Gonzalez helper.
Cobleskill held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks, while both teams finished with nine shots.
Malcolm Kane stopped three shots for the Wildcats.
