Wildcats Outlast Keuka in Shootout; Advance to NEAC Semifinals

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Penn College punched its first-ever ticket to the North Eastern Athletic Conference final four with a 7-6 shootout win over Keuka College in the NEAC quarterfinals. The Wildcats advanced to Saturday's semifinals against top-seeded Penn State Abington.

Following two stops from keeper Malcolm Kane in shootout, Geri Lua netted the game-winner with a shot to the top right of net before he and Kane survived the ensuing dog-pile.

Daniel Hibbs and Chris McFarland both made their first kicks in shootout, while Keuka netted its first, before Kane came up with a stop on the second shot. Ryan Mavretish stopped Mike Gonzalez' shot and both teams connected on the rest of their first five shots – with Jonathan Myers and Greg Dorsch twitching twine for the Wildcats.

Seth Bilbie and Austin Dowrick matched Keuka in the No. 6 and No. 7 attempts, while Kane stoned Dominic Chiarella, which setup Lua's heroics in the next PCT shot.

The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead in the eight minute after Dowrick headed in McFarland's indirect kick but the Wolves answered in the 28th minute to even the contest at 1-1.

Keuka went ahead, 2-1, in the 49th minute but the Wildcats responded again in the 89th minute. Lua launched a pass from McFarland from 25-yards out for the equalizer, which eventually sent the game into double overtime.

Keuka outshot the Wildcats 19-12 and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Kane finished with five stops for Penn College, while Mavretish stopped four.
