Penn College Wins in Shootout; Heading to Second-Straight Semifinal

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – For the second time in as many seasons, Penn College is heading to the North Eastern Athletic Conference semifinals.
And the Wildcats took the same route.

After a scoreless double-overtime, Penn College outlasted Keuka College, 3-1, in shootout in the NEAC Women's Soccer quarterfinals. The Wildcats used a shootout win in 2016 to advance to their first NEAC final four.

Penn College will take on SUNY Poly, 5 p.m., Saturday at Penn State Berks.

Taylor Gonzalez set the tone in shootout with a save on Keuka's first attempt. Hanna Williams followed with the Wildcats first tally in the shootout. Keuka evened the count at 1-1, before Tiffany Brown's attempt hit the crossbar.

Gonzalez stepped up again on Keuka's No. 3 shooter, Kelsey Maurer, with a save and Hailee Hartman found the back of the net to give PCT a 2-1 advantage. Gonzalez turned away Emily McGuigan's shot and Olivia Murgo's shot gave the Wildcats the win.

Penn College missed two chances in the first overtime when headers off corners by Williams was high in the 96th minute and Hartman's attempt in the 99th minute was wide. Gonzalez turned away two shots in the period to keep scores at zeros.

Near misses and timely saves were the theme in the third period for Penn College, with clutch defensive stops by Williams and Chrissy Webber with ten minutes to play and Brown just missing by hitting the post in the 88th minute.
