WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Westminster used a 32-point second half to hand Penn College a 55-43 setback in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 1-2, while the Titans improved to 1-0.
Tori Wolfe scored a game-high 15 points for Penn College, on 5 of 15 shooting. Gwendolyn Lavell added 11 points and Christine Limbert grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
Jackie Matthews and Emily Fromknecht each scored 10 points for Westminster.
Penn College took its first lead of the game when Cassie Kuhns' layup at 5:18 in the first made it 8-7. Following a 10-10 deadlock with 3:43 left, the Titans used a 4-3 run to lead 14-13 at the end of the first. The Wildcats regained the lead in the second quarter when Limbert hit one of two free throws with 6:22 before the break to make it 17-14. Westminster responded with a 9-1 spurt to end the half, ahead 23-18.
The Titans took its largest lead, 30-20, with 7:50 left in the third before the Wildcats managed to pull within two, 36-34, on
Jane Herman's steal and layup with 2:27 on the clock. Westminster led 43-35 at the end of the period and led by double-digits the majority of the fourth quarter.
Penn College returns action Tuesday, 5 p.m., at Lycoming College.
