LA PLUME, Pa. – Penn College picked up its first wins this season, going 2-1 at the Keystone Quad Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 2-5 with wins over SUNY Ulster and Thaddeus Stevens and a setback to Keystone College
Against SUNY Ulster,
Penn College deadlocked with Ulster, 30-30, but earned the winning points via criteria D, most near fall points.
The Wildcats won all competed matches with pins, while Ulster picked up all its points with forfeits.
Christian Fox picked up a pin in 1:58 at 133 to tie the match at 6-6 and
Joe Swank made it 12-6 with a fall in 1:47 at 141. After a forfeit at 149 made it 12-12, Daniel Bergeron made it 18-12 with a pin in 2:27 at 157. Back-to-back forfeits Ulster a 24-18 lead before Nick Bruce picked up a fall with six seconds left in the second to tie the match at 24. Ulster earned another fofeit at 197 before
Dylan Otis used a fall in 2:03 to tie the match again at 30.
Against Thaddeus Stevens,
Joe Swank won the only contested bout with a fall in 36 seconds at 141. Penn College received six forfeits.
Against Keystone,
Keystone jumped out to a 12-0 lead after a forfeit and fall.
Joe Swank put PCT on the board with a pin at 141 in 6:07, after taking a 6-2 lead in the first after three takedowns. After an escape in the second period by KC, Swank picked up his fourth takedown en route to the fall.
A forfeit at 149 made it 18-12, before Bergeron dropped a 14-6 major in which he battled back from a 5-0 hole with a reversal and two near fall points in the third to make it 5-4. After trading reversal's to put the match at 7-6, Bergeron allowed an escape and eventually got taken down, leading to three back points.
Both teams traded forfeits in the ensuing four bout, before Otis used a fall in 1:02 to end the match.
