Erik Eichinger shot attempt as time expired to give Penn College a thrilling 101-99 double overtime win over Penn State Berks in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Wednesday. The Wildcats improved to 8-12 overall, 6-9 NEAC, while the Lions dropped to 4-13, 4-9.
Thomas Ross led Penn College with 28 points, including 6 of 11 from behind the arc, and
Ben Sosa added 25. White pumped in 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Eichinger finished with 12.
Ross is now 14 points away from reaching 1,000 career points.
Baba Waples scored a game-high 40 points for Berks, Darren Major added 29, and Joel Ellison finished with 17.
The Lions erased a five-point deficit with 56 seconds left in the second overtime with five straight points to even the game at 99 with 39 seconds left. Following a Berks miss with 24 seconds left, the Wildcats called a timeout with four ticks on the clock. Eichinger drove the lane and his runner went high off the glass before White tipped-in the game-winner.
The first overtime featured three ties and several lead change before a White layup with 1:48 left evened the game at 86-86, and both teams withstood three-point attempts to send the game to a second overtime.
Holding a 39-35 lead to start the second half, Penn College watched its lead slip away when the Lions opened the half with a 5-0 run to take a 40-39 lead with 18:36 left in regulation. After several more ties, Penn College took its largest lead, 75-69, after a Ross three with 4:47 left in the second half. Berks used an 11-4 run to leak 80-78 with 1:08 before
Marquis Delgado sank two free throws with 49 seconds left which ended up sending the game into the first overtime.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 3 p.m., at College of Saint Elizabeth.
