WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Cazenovia held on for a 63-55 win over Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball Saturday. PCT dropped to 3-19 overall, 3-14 NEAC, while Caz improved to 4-16, 3-11.
Jane Herman picked up her fifth double-double this season with a game-high 22 points and a team-best 13 rebounds.
Alicia Ross shared scoring honors with her teammate with 22 points.
Kelli Shepardson led Cazenovia with 18 points, Skylar Girard netted 16, and Taylor Spranger finished with 15.
Cazenovia jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the opening seven minutes of the game before Herman and Ross combined for 11 points in the final 2:25 to make it 16-11 after the first. PCT pulled within three –twice – the first on a Herman three with 1:26 left in the first half, the second on an
Alexis Trkula jumper with 41 seconds left to make it 24-21. Ross' long ball with four ticks on the clock put Penn College within two, 26-24, at halftime.
Cazenovia took its largest lead of the third quarter, 41-30, with 5:18 remaining in the period before Penn College pulled within four, 41-37, after a 7-0 spurt with 3:40 left. Caz answered with a 6-2 run to end the quarter ahead 46-39.
Penn College got as close as two, 49-47, after a Ross three with 6:58 left in the game. Cazenovia used an 11-1 run in the ensuing four minutes to take a 60-48 lead with 2:04 on the clock. PCT managed to get as close as seven in the final two minutes.
Penn College returns to action Sunday, 12 p.m., hosting Morrisville.
