MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – After a 3-0 start to begin its spring break, Penn College's baseball team went 2-2 in its final four contest. The Wildcats are 5-3 this season.
Penn College split with North Carolina Wesleyan, 7-6, 1-10, knocked off Mt. Aloysius, 14-8, and fell to Catholic, 10-1.
In game one against N.C. Wesleyan
Dylan Scaringi scored the eventual game-winning run with single to center in the top of the ninth to give the Wildcats a 7-6 lead.
Penn College took a 1-0 lead on a
Noah Esposito single in the first and went ahead 5-2 with an RBI from Scaringi and an error and a two-run double from
Noah Esposito in the fourth.
Eli Warren plated a run in the fourth to put PCT ahead 6-2.
Evan Vigna,
Ben Flicker, and Esposito all finished with two hits for Penn College.
Devon Sanders picked up the win after throwing the final two innings, allowing no runs, on one, with one walk.
Cody Nelson started the game and fired five innings, with four runs, on six hits, two strikeouts and no walks.
In game two against N.C. Wesleyan
Scaringi provided the only run for Penn College in the fifth with a RBI single. He was responsible for two of the Wildcats' five hits.
Trevor Dolin fell to 0-1 after three innings of work. He allowed six earned runs, on six hits, with one strikeouts and three walks.
Against Mt. Aloysius
Penn College built a 4-0 lead through the first five innings. RBIs by
Brittan Kittle, Warren, and Esposito made it 3-0 after three before Flicker launched his first collegiate home run with a solo shot in the fifth to make it 4-0.
Cole Hofmann, Warren and Flicker all had RBIs in the sixth before PCT tacked on seven in the seventh. Hofmann, Kittle,
Richard Lennon, Esposito, and Scaringi (2 RBIs) were all responsible for the offensive scoring in the seventh frame.
Hofmann, Flicker, and Kittle each finished with three hits for Penn College and
Nathaniel Lowe, Esposito, and Scaringi each picked up two hits.
Aaron Palmer improved to 1-0 after five innings of work. He allowed one earned run on four hits, with one strikeout and four walks.
Against Catholic
Penn College trailed 10-0 before Scaringi batted in the Wildcats lone run in the eighth.
Penn College returns to action March 24, 1 p.m., at Pitt-Bradford.
