MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College's softball team went 5-3 during its spring break trip after a 3-1 start to begin the week. In their final four contests of the trip, the Wildcats fell to Hilbert, 4-0, Ursinus, 8-1, and Gwynedd Mercy, 9-8, before knocking off Clarks Summit, 11-1.
Against Hilbert
Hilbert plated runs in four different innings and scattered seven Penn College hits.
Taylor Brooks picked up two hits for the Wildcats and took the loss in the circle after allowing four runs, on nine hits, with three strikeouts and five walks.
Against Ursinus
Kelsey Gantz provided the lone run for Penn College in the sixth with a RBI single to make it 2-1 before the Bears added six runs in the bottom of the frame.
Amanda Kustanbauter fell to 1-2 after 5.2 innings of work. She allowed eight runs (two earned), on eight hits, with one strikeout and four walks.
Against GM
The Wildcats built a 7-0 lead through the first five innings before GM scored nine straight.
Gantz picked up two RBIs on two hits,
Taylor Krow knocked in a run on three hits, and
Becky Schweikert brought in a run on two hits for Penn College.
Against Clarks Summit
The Wildcats built a 6-0 in the first inning with RBIs from Gantz,
Elizabeth Asher (2),
Maddie Wenk,
Kassie Winters and Krow. Asher and Wenk added RBIs in the second,
Alyssa Gentile's triple in the third plated another run, Winters brought in a run in the fourth and Asher knocked in one in the fifth.
Krow, Gentile, and Asher all had three hits for Penn College and
Kylie Shreiner, Wenk, and Winters finished with two hits.
Winters earned the win after four innings. She allowed one run on three hits, with three strikeouts and two walks.
Penn College returns to action Thursday at Wilkes University.
