BRADFORD, Pa. – Penn College swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Pitt-Bradford Friday. The Wildcats won the first game, 8-7, before taking the nightcap 6-3. The second game concluded in the sixth inning due to darkness.
Penn College, winners of three game, improved to 8-4.
In game one,
After trailing 2-0 through the second inning, Penn College exploded for seven runs in the third to take a 7-2 lead.
Cole Hofmann's two-run single made it 2-0 before an error and a bases loaded walk to
Brittan Kittle put the Wildcats ahead 4-0.
Evan Vigna's single to center tacked on another run before
Richard Lennon smacked a single to left to plate a pair of runs.
Bradford eventually evened the game with two in the third and fourth innings, and one in the fifth.
Cody Cline plated the go-ahead run with a single to eighth that brought in
Noah Esposito.
Vigna and Lennon both finished with two hits for Penn College.
Max Bair relieved
Cody Nelson in the fourth and fired 4.1 innings en route to picking up his first win this season. Bair scattered three hits, struck out three, walked one and allowed one earned run.
In game two,
Penn College overcame a 3-0 deficit with a run in the third, four in the fourth and one in the sixth innings.
Nathaniel Lowe's RBI single in the third inning put the Wildcats on the board, before RBI's by Vigna and Lennon in the fourth tied the game at 3-3.
Cody Cline put PCT ahead for good on a two run double to left also in the fourth before an error in the sixth scored the final run.
Lennon and Cline both finished with two hits for PCT.
Jed Blankenhorn improved to 1-0 following two innings of work after relieving
Trevor Dolin in the fifth.
Penn College returns to action Tuesday at Marywood.
