MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College opened its Spring Break trip going 3-0 on Sunday and Monday. The Wildcats handled Penn State Mont Alto 14-2 and swept Manhattanville, 8-3 and 3-2, in a doubleheader Monday.
Against Mt. Alto,
Penn College scored two runs in each of the first, third and fourth innings, added one in the fifth, three in the sixth and fourth in the eighth.
Ben Flicker and
Rylan Whitmyer both picked up a pair of hits for Penn College and two RBI each.
James Simasek and
Eli Warren both brought in a pair of runs, while
Cole Hofmann,
Evan Vigna,
Brittan Kittle, and
Richard Lennon all knocked in a run for Penn College.
Kyle Fox improved to 1-0 after five innings of work. He fanned three, walked two, scattered two hits and allowed no runs. Devon Sander fired two innings of hitless baseball with four strikeouts.
Hunter Thomas (two strikeouts) and
Terrell Scott (one strikeout) each pitched an inning.
Against Manhattanville,
In game one, Warren tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a RBI single before the Wildcats exploded for six runs in the third inning. Kittle, Lennon,
Noah Esposito, and Vigna each knocked in a run, while
Dylan Scaringi brought in a pair with a double to right to give PCT a 7-1 lead.
Nathaniel Lowe's single to left in the fifth plated the final run for Penn College.
Esposito finished with three hits,while Lowe and Warren each had two.
Bradley Walter earned the win after five innings on the mound with three strikeouts, two walks and two earned runs.
In game two, Warren gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead with single in the first and later tied the game at 2-2 after single in the fifth. Lowe scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.
Warren finished with two hits for Penn College.
Max Bair started the game on the mound for PCT, going five innings with four strikeouts, two walks and two earned runs.
Andrew Gilbert fired two innings in relief to earn the win, with four strikeouts, one walk and no runs.
Penn College played two games against North Carolina Wesleyan Tuesday and will finish off the week against Mount Aloysius and Catholic.
