MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College opened up its Spring Break trip with a 3-1 mark through the first four games. The Wildcats beat Cedar Crest 8-3 and fell to Eastern Mennonite, 7-2, Sunday before beating Medaille College, 4-2, and Rhode Island College, 5-1, Monday.
Penn College was idle Tuesday and are scheduled for four more games Wednesday and Thursday.
Against Cedar Crest,
Taylor Krow put PCT on the board in the third with an inside-the-park homerun before the Wildcats tacked on three in both the fourth and sixth innings.
Sophie Coldsmith and Krow picked up RBI singles in the fourth and Krow touched home on wild pitch.
Kelsey Gantz brought in two with single in the sixth and
Kylie Shreiner also knocked in a run on a single.
Taylor Brooks's single in the seventh plated the Wildcats final run.
Krow and Coldsmith led Penn College at the plate with three hits each, while Brooks went the distance in the circle with six strikeouts, nine walks and three earned runs.
Against Eastern Mennonite,
Eastern Mennonite jumped out to 6-0 lead through six innings before the Wildcats added their only two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Brooks triple and a Gantz single.
Amanda Kustanbauter fired seven innings with zero strikeouts, one walk and three earned runs.
Against Medaille,
The Wildcats scored all of the runs they needed in the second inning. Singles from
Tiana McCormick, Lacey Clark and Krow all plated runs and Coldsmith picked up a RBI on a fielder's choice.
Kustanbauter picked up the win after seven innings of work. She struck out one, walked three and allowed two runs (none earned).
Against Rhode Island,
Kassie Winters smacked a two-run double in the second inning to give Penn College a 2-0 lead and
Elizabeth Asher cleared the bases in the fifth with a double to complete the scoring for the Wildcats.
Asher finished with two hits, while Winters earned the win by scattering seven hits in seven innings, with one unearned run.
Penn College returns to action Wednesday against Hilbert College.
