AURORA, N.Y. – Penn College opened its North Eastern Athletic Conference schedule with a two-game sweep over Wells College Saturday. The Wildcats won the first game 10-3, and took the nightcap 9-3 to improve 10-5 overall, 2-0 NEAC.
In game one,
Penn College jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a RBI double from
Eli Warren and a two-run double by
Brittan Kittle. The Express pulled within one, 3-2, in the bottom of the first inning before the Wildcats gained separation with a four run third.
An error plated one run in the third before Kittle drove in two with his second double and
Richard Lennon's sacrifice fly to left scored the fourth run to give Penn College a 7-2 lead.
After Wells tacked on a run in the fifth, Penn College crossed home three more times in the seventh. Lennon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded,
Noah Esposito drew a bases loaded walks, and
Dylan Scaringi drove in the final run with a single to left field.
Warren went 3 for 4 at the plate with a RBI and three runs scored.
Cole Hofmann,
Ben Flicker, Kittle, and
Evan Vigna all finished with two hits each for Penn College. Kittle finished with four runs batted in.
Devon Sanders improved to 2-0 after 5.1 innings of relief pitching. He surrendered one run, struck out five and walked two.
In game two,
The Wildcats stormed out to a 6-0 lead through the first four innings.
Ben Flicker's grounder in the first made it 1-0 before Esposito's fielder's choice plated a run in the fourth, followed by a two run single by
Cody Cline, an error, and Flicker's RBI ground out to second.
Wells made it 6-2 on a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth and Penn College answered with three in the sixth. An error and wild pitch led to two runs for PCT and Flicker smacked a RBI double to right to plate the final run.
Cline, Flicker, and
Dylan Scaringi all picked up a pair of hits for the Wildcats, with Cline finishing with two RBI.
Max Bair improved to 2-1 after five innings on the mound. He allowed two earned runs, struck out four, and walked two.
Bradley Walter and
Zach Junk combined for a two-hit, one run of relief pitching in the final four frames.
Penn College returns to action Thursday, 1 p.m., at Mount Aloysius.
