WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College remained perfect in North Eastern Athletic Conference after sweeping a doubleheader against Morrisville Monday. The Wildcats improved to 4-0 NEAC, 8-5 NEAC following an 8-2 win in the first game and an 8-0 victory in the second contest.
In game one,
Penn College jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning after a double from
Sophie Coldsmith scored the first run and
Laycee Clark's single to left plated Coldsmith. After Morrisville evened the game in the top of the third, Penn College added two in each of the third and fourth innings.
Maddie Wenk's single to center in the third plated
Elizabeth Asher and
Kassie Winters, before Winters and Asher each picked up RBI singles in the fourth to make 6-2. Coldsmith batted in another run in the sixth on a single to center and Clark drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the Wildcats final run.
Penn College picked up a combined 10 hits from the top of its lineup with two hits from Krow, Asher and Kylie Shriener and three knocks from Winters. Coldsmith also picked up two hits for Penn College.
Winters improved to 3-0 with a complete-game effort. She scattered nine hits, struck out five, walked three and surrendered two runs.
In game two,
Asher and Wenk got things rolling in the first inning with RBI singles to give Penn College a 2-0 lead. An Asher single to center in the third made 3-0 before Colsmith brought in a run on a single and
Amanda Kustanbauter belted a sacrifice fly to left to make it 6-0.
Penn College ended the game in the fifth inning when Krow smacked a single to center and
Taylor Brooks roped a shot to right to end the game.
Krow, Brooks, and Asher all picked up two hits for the Wildcats, while Kustanbauter improved to 3-4 after firing all five innings of shutout pitching. She scattered four hits, struck out two and walked two.
Penn College returns to action Monday, 3 p.m., hosting Wells College.
