Penn College Splits a Pair of High Scoring Games

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Penn College split a pair of games with Penn State Abington as part of a North Eastern Athletic Conference double header on Friday. A 11-10 victory in the first game and 10-7 defeat in the nightcap moved the Wildcats to 4-2 in the NEAC and 13-7 overall. Â

In game one,
Both teams started out sluggish with neither team scoring in the first two innings and both teams being retired in order in the first two frames.Â
In the third inning both team put up four runs. The Wildcats were able to take advantage of some wild pitching by Penn State Abington in the frame. Penn College drew three walks,
Brittan Kittle was hit by a pitch and Cole Hoffmann drove in two runs with a double.Â
The team traded runs in the fourth, with
Nathaniel Lowe driving in the Wildcat run with a double.   Penn College answered a Trey Guaglionona 2-run homerun in the top of the fifth with three runs of their own.Â
Dylan Scaringi drove in the first run of the inning for the Wildcats on a sac fly and Hoffmann delivered two more RBIs to Penn College an 8-7 lead after five.
Aaron Palmer did his job in the top of sixth sitting the Lions down in order.Â
Noah Esposito then added an insurance run in the bottom half with a single to left. Penn State Abington used some aggressive base running in the seventh inning to tie the game up, scoring the game-tying run on a double steal to force extra innings.
After the teams traded runs in the eight the Wildcats used two pitchers to shut down the Lions in the top half of the ninth. In the bottom half of the inning with a man on first and two outs
Richard Lennon doubled to score the winning run.Â
Cole Hoffman paced the Wildcats with three RBIs and four hits,
Richard Lennon and
Dylan Scaringi also drove in a pair.Â
Andrew Gilbert picked up the win for the Wildcats improving to 2-0 on the year.
In Game Two,
Penn College jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a 3-run homerun from
Richard Lennon.Â
Penn State Abington chipped away at the lead over the next few innings finally bringing the game even in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats reclaimed the lead as
Ben Flicker scored on a
Evan Vigna single and Lennon doubled to knock in Vigna. Â A
Cody Cline single to center in the sixth scored
Nathaniel Lowe to push the Penn College lead to 7-4.
The Lions would go on to score the last six runs of the game over the next two innings. Stevie Stevenson led the Lions in the last two inning with a 2-run homerun in the seventh and a RBI in the eighth. The game was called after the 8
th inning due to lack of light.Â
Richard Lennon continued his big day with four more RBIs in the second game. Vigna, Flicker and Cline each added one RBI for the Wildcats.Â
Andrew Gilbert pick up the loss dropping him to 2-1 on the year.Â
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m. hosting Cazenovia.Â
