WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College won its 10
th straight game with a pair of wins over SUNY Poly in a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Saturday. The Wildcats' bats did the talking in a 7-2 win in the opener, before
Elizabeth Asher sealed the game with a walk-off RBI single to lift Penn College to a 5-4 win in the nightcap.
The Wildcats improved to 10-0 NEAC, 14-5 overall.
In game two,
Asher broke a 4-4 deadlock when she looped a two-out single to center field that scored
Taylor Brooks and secure the win for Penn College.
Maddie Wenk's single to right, before Asher's at-bat, plated
Alyssa Gentile to even the game at 4-4 after Poly took a one run lead in the top of the seventh.
Poly held a 3-0 lead early in the game with a run in the second and two in the third. Penn College chipped away with
Becky Schweikert's RBI single to left in the fourth and Shreiner's two run double to center in the fifth that plated Gentile and Krow.
Asher finished went 3 for 3 at the plate, while Wenk, Schweikert, and
Tiana McCormick all picked up two hits.
Amanda Kustanbauter improved to 5-4 after a complete-game effort. She allowed two earned runs on nine hits, with three strikeouts and four walks.
In game one,
Penn College overcame a 1-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. McCormick's two run single up the middle made it 2-1 after
Sophie Coldsmith and Kylie Shriener touched home, before
Taylor Krow smacked a two run single to left, plating McCormick and
Kassie Winters, to make it 4-1.
Winters made it 5-1 with a single in the fourth and Gentile launched a two run single to center, scoring McCormick and Winters, to put PCT ahead 7-1.
Winters paced the offense with two hits, while Krow, Gentile, and McCormick all batted in a pair of runs.
Winter improved to 5-0 after seven innings in the circle. She scattered seven hit, struck out two and walked three.
Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 3 p.m., against Keuka College.
