Brooks Tosses No-Hitter, Slugs Grand Slam in Morrisville Sweep

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Penn College sophomore Taylor Brooks made the difference in a double-header sweep over Morrisville in a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball twinbill Sunday. Brooks' grand slam led to an 8-0 win in the first game, before she fired a no-hitter in a 4-0 victory in the nightcap.

Penn College improved to 12-2 NEAC, 16-7 overall.

In game one,
Brooks flexed her muscles in the first inning when she cleared the bases with a shot to center field, scoring Maddie Wenk, Kassie Winters and Lacey Clark to put Penn College ahead 4-0. It was her first career grand slam.

Following four innings of scoreless ball, Penn College added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Taylor Krow drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth to make it 5-0 before Kylie Shreiner roped a two-run single to center and Brooks later scored when Shreiner stole second send Brooks from third on the throw.
Wenk, Brooks, and Tiana McCormick all finished with two hits for the Wildcats, while Winters improved to 6-2 with a complete-game shutout. She scattered four hits, struck out four and walked one.

In game two,
Backed by Brooks' gem, which is the first no-hitter since Penn College joined the NEAC, the Wildcats pushed across runs in the first and second, and tacked on late runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Elizabeth Asher made it 1-0 win a RBI single in the first before Krow's bunt single in the second put PCT ahead 2-0. Brooks belted a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Wenk did the same in the seventh.

Brooks allowed just three base runners on two walks and one hit batter. She sat down 10 on strikeouts and improved to 5-1.

Penn College returns to action Monday, 3 p.m., hosting Keuka College.
