ELMIRA, N.Y. – Penn College knocked off Elmira College 9-4 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday. The Wildcats improved to 21-10, while the Eagles fell to 15-15.
Elmira used a home run and an error to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Penn College added a run in the second and two in the third to lead 3-2.
Richard Lennon scored on a wild pitch in the second inning before a sacrifice fly from
Ben Flicker and a grounder by
Brittan Kittle in the third gave Penn College a one-run lead.
The Eagles regained the lead with two in the bottom of the third but the Wildcats answered with two in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
Cody Cline evened the game with single in the fourth and Flicker gave Penn College the lead for good on another sacrifice fly.
Noah Esposito roped a two-run single to left in the fifth, while an error in the eighth and
Cole Hofmann's single in ninth wrapped up the scoring.
Lennon paced the offense with three hits for Penn College, while Cline,
Evan Vigna, and Esposito each finished with a pair of knocks.
Aaron Palmer improved to 3-1 after two innings of hitless pitching with one strikeout.
Hunter Thomas,
Devon Sanders, and
Andrew Gilbert combined for a one-hitter in the final three innings.
Penn College returns to the diamond Saturday, 1 p.m., at SUNY Poly.
