WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Dominique Brown recorded a first-half hat trick to lift Penn College to a 3-0 shutout win over crosstown rival Lycoming College in the eighth annual Battle for the Lumber trophy. The Wildcats improved to 1-1-1, while the Warriors dropped to 1-4.
Lycoming College leads the series 5-2-1, while Penn College's last win was in 2013.
Brown struck just three minutes into the game when she received a cross from
Hailee Hartman and one-timed the ball to the back of the net. Brown made it 2-0 six minute later when she deposited a pass from
Tiffany Brown. Penn College went ahead 3-0 in the 26
th minute when
Dominique Brown took a flick from Christina Webber and buried the shot.
The Wildcats put three shots on frame in the second half with attempts from
Abby Williams,
Dominique Brown, and
Olivia Murgo, but all found the mitts of the goalie.
Penn College out shot the Warriors 20-13 and held a 10-9 advantage in corner kicks.
Joelle Winer (3) and Madie Welliver (4) combined for seven saves for Lycoming, while
Taylor Gonzalez (3) and
Millie Landry (5) stopped eight combined shots for Penn College.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 2:30 p.m., at Wilkes University.
