Late Rally Lifts Wells over Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --  Wells College closed out the final four minutes with an 11-2 run to knock off Penn College 76-67 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Wednesday. The Express improved to 6-12 overall, 4-5 NEAC, while the Wildcats fell to 2-15, 1-7.

Spencer Barton paced Penn College with 20 points on 7 of 14 shooting, including 6 of 12 from long range. James Bullock picked up his second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Robert Young Jr. finished with 10. Jesse White grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Wells connected on 15 of 38 threes, led by Zach D'Arpino's 21 and Macho DeJesus' 19.

The Wildcats jumped out to 17-14 lead after a Bullock layup with 10:46 left in the opening half before the Express rallied with 11-5 run to lead 25-24 with 7:11 before the break. The game featured three more deadlocks before Wells separated from a 33-33 game with an 11-6 run to end half, ahead 44-39.

Penn College erased an 11-point, 61-50, deficit midway through the second half with a 14-2 run, spanning nearly five minutes. Young and Bullock paced the run with a six points each, and the Wildcats took a 64-63 lead on White's layup with 4:46 left. The lead changed two more times before Wells finished off the game with its 11-2 spurt.

Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., at SUNY Cobleskill.
