WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College had a four-goal lead slip away in the final 22 minutes en route to a 4-4 double-overtime draw to Penn State Berks in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's soccer match Friday. The Wildcats wrapped of the regular season at 7-7-2 overall, 6-4-1 NEAC, while the Nittany Lions went to 5-10-2, 3-7-1.
Penn College will continue its season in next week's NEAC playoffs. The Wildcats seed and opponent will be determined after the conclusion of all NEAC games Sunday.
Penn College went on the board early in the game when
Chris McFarland threaded the needle with a through ball to
Vance Gradwell, who netted his sixth goal this season in the first minute.
Colton Wartman headed in
Matthew Yoder's corner kick 10 minutes later to put PCT ahead 2-0.
Kevin McFarland booted a pass from the 40 that connected with
Seth Bilbie for his first goal this season and a 3-0 Penn College lead in the 33
rd minute. The Wildcats made it 4-0 in the 42
nd minute on
David Pressel's through ball to
Ian Smith.
Penn College emptied its bench with a four-goal lead and 22 minutes left in the contest and Penn State Berks took advantage. The Lions converted a penalty kick in the 68
th minute, scored on a free kick in the 75
th and netted shots in the 85
th and 88
th minutes.
The Wildcats had two shots in the first overtime with
Devan Leister's header going wide early and Gradwell's header being saved in the final minute.
Hunter Gosnell picked up two saves in the second overtime, the second coming on a sliding stop with four minutes left.
Gosnell finished with six saves and no goal allowed, while
Brendan Skwirut allowed all four goals in relief with one stop.
