WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College netted two unanswered second half goals to beat Morrisville, 2-1, in the North Eastern Athletic Conference women's soccer semifinals Tuesday. The win advanced the Wildcats to Saturday's 2 p.m. semifinal contest opposite defending champions Penn State Berks in a rematch of last year's NEAC Championship game.
The playoff win marked two program records for the Wildcats. Penn College improved to 12-7, which is the most wins in program history, topping the 11 wins of the 2013 and 2016 teams. Prior to Tuesday's victory, Penn College was 0-2-2 in the NEAC postseason – advancing to finals last year and the semifinals in 2016 via shootout – making Tuesday's result the first NEAC postseason victory in program history.
Morrisville went on the board early in the contest when Jessica McGee collected her rebound on a
Taylor Gonzales save and deposited the ball to the back of the net in the 20
th minute. The Wildcats missed two opportunities to get point minutes before McGee's goal when
Madison Kistler hit the post in the 16
th minute and
Erica Gallagher's rebound attempt was cleared off the line by defender Jade Shimer.
Penn College evened the game in the 52
nd minute when
Dominique Brown deposited
Tiffany Brown's pass from the left side of the 18. Gonzales kept the score even in the ensuing 33 minutes with a pair of saves before
Francesca Timpone's corner kick led to
Morgan Brooks' eventual game-winning goal in the 86nd minute.
Penn College outshot Morrisville 14-8 and held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Gonzales finished with three saves.
