READING, Pa. – Penn College dropped a 79-58 decision to Alvernia University in a non-conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 0-1, while the Wolves improved to 2-0.
Ben Sosa paced Penn College with a team-high 13 points, on 4 of 9 shooting, and dished out a team-best four assists, along with six rebounds.
Ryan Lockman finished with a game-high 10 rebounds and added eight points, while
Obens Luxama netted eight points with four assists.
Alvernia had five players reach double figures in scoring, led by Nick Youngkin's game-high 15 points.
The Wolves led the entire contest, while Penn College was as close as four, 12-8, after a pair of Lockman free throws six minutes into the game. Alvernia used a 16-7 run to take its largest lead, 28-15, with 8:28 left in the first half. The Wolves led by as many as 18 before heading into the break ahead, 44-27.
Penn College opened up the second half with a 12-2 scoring spurt to pull within six, 46-40, on Sosa's layup with 14:57 left in the game. Sosa paced the run with nine points. AU answered with a 11-5 run to lead by 15 and its lead never dipped below double digits the remainder of the game.
Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 7 p.m., at Elmira College.
