ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira College used a late first half burst to build momentum in a 94-69 win over Penn College in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday. The Wildcats fell to 0-2, while the Eagles improved to 1-1.
Ben Sosa scored a game-high 27 points for Penn College, on 12 of 23 shooting, and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to record his first double-double this season.
Ryan Lockman added 15 points and six boards, while
Spencer Bartron netted 11 and grabbed seven rebounds
Elmira saw six players reach double-figures in scoring led by Shawn Backus' 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Penn College took its largest lead, 10-4, after
Obens Luxama connected on one of two free throws with 16:54 left in the first half. The Eagles responded with 9-0 run to take a 13-10 lead three minutes later before Sosa's layup with 8:39 on clock gave PCT a 24-22 advantage. Elmira ended the period with a 23-11 run to take a 45-34 lead at halftime.
The Eagles lead never dipped below double-digits the remainder of the game.
Penn College returns to action Friday, 5 p.m., at Montclair State.
