ROANOKE, Va. – Penn College finished 2-2 at the VBR Sports Southeast Dual Saturday hosted by Ferrum College. The Wildcats improved to 2-3 this season.
Penn College picked up wins against Bluefield College, 26-24, and Southern Virginia, 32-9, and dropped decisions to Mount Union, 51-0, and Greensboro, 25-23.
Against Mt. Union,
Mt. Union, the sixth ranked team in Division III, picked up bonus-point wins in all by one match, Grant Martin's 8-2 decision against
Dylan Otis at heavyweight.
Against Greensboro,
Greensboro built a 25-6 lead through 165 pounds, with PCT's six points coming via forfeit at 141.
Jesse Walker kept Penn College in the match despite his setback at 157. Trailing 8-4 in the third, Walker used a reversal and later a takedown to make it 9-8, before getting reversed in an 11-8 decision.
Dylan Gettys made it 25-11 with an 18-0 tech fall at 174 before
Colin Browne's 3-1 decision at 184 made it 25-14.
Jared Mooney picked up a fall at 197, while Otis squeaked out a 2-0 decision at heavyweight with an escape and riding time.
Against Bluefield,
Bluefield led 9-0 early in the match before pins from
Gavin Link and
Jesse Walker at 141 and 149, respectively, gave Penn College a 12-9 lead. Bluefield took a 21-12 advantage with consecutive falls at 157 and 165. Gettys made it 21-15 after his 7-6 win at 174 before BC made 24-15 with a decision at 184, 3-2.
A forfeit at 197 put the Wildcats within striking distance 24-21, and Otis secured the win with a 2:57 pin at heavyweight.
Against Southern Virginia,
Decisions from
Christian Fox and Walker bookended a SV fall at 141 to tie the match at 6-6. Fox used first period takedown to earn a 2-1 decision and Walker used a third period takedown to hang on from a 5-4 win.
Christopher Bashaw put the Wildcats ahead for good with a 46-second pin at 157.
Daniel Bergeron decked his opponent at 165 and Gettys followed with an 8-0 major decision at 174.
Southern Virginia picked up a decision at 184 before Mooney earned a 14-4 major at 197 and Otis picked up his second pin in 4:09 at heavyweight.
Penn College returns to action Nov. 30 at Messiah College's Petrofes Invitational.
