WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College split a non-conference softball doubleheader with SUNY Potsdam Saturday at Elm Park. The Wildcats fell 4-2 in eight innings in the first game, before picking up a 3-0 shutout in the nightcap.
Penn College improved to 6-8 this season.
In game one,
Penn College jumped out to a 2-0 lead on
Chelsea Gray's two-run single that plated
Alyssa Gentile and
Taylor Brooks. The Bears evened the game in the fifth with a two-run triple. The Wildcats had a chance in the sixth to score the go-ahead run with a runner on third and one out, but could not move the run home.
Potsdam scored two in the top of the eighth and prevented any runs from PCT.
Gentile led Penn College with three hits, while Brooks and Gray each picked up a pair.
Kassie Winters fell to 1-1 after 2.2 innings. She allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, with no strikeouts and four walks. Brooks started the game and fired 5.1 innings, allowing two runs, on two hits, with 11 strikeouts and nine walks.
In game two,
The Wildcats plated all of its runs in the fourth inning and benefited from superb pitching from
Morgan Heritage.
Kristina Holland's single to center scored Gray and gave Penn College a 1-0 lead.
Tiana McCormick brought home Holland with a single before
Laycee Clark scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
Holland led PCT with two hits.
Heritage fired a complete-game shutout. She scattered two hits, walked three, and sat down 14 batters and improved to 3-3.
Penn College returns to action Saturday hosting Morrisville.
